Repeating a fun and unexpectedly emotional event from the very full January 2014 Wisconsin beer calendar, Madison's Funk Factory Geuzeria (the burgeoning brainchild of Levi Funk) and Plover's O'so Brewing will host another coolship-filling party and bottle release at the latter's brewery space in central Wisconsin this coming January.
As with last year, the event will take place the Friday before Central Waters Brewing hosts its own midwinter shindig, making the weekend one that upper Midwestern beer fans will probably want to book a room for. And as with last year, there will be limited-quantity bottles released for sale to attendees. In addition to a small amount of the Door Kriek Lambic-style ale with tart cherries that was initially made available at O'so's 7th Anniversary party, Funk Factory will launch Framrood (Lambic-style ale with red raspberries) and The Fox and the Grapes (Lambic-style ale with Foch grapes).
Unlike last year, however, prospective purchasers needn't sweat the unknown crowds; Funk Factory and O'so are opening up bottles reservations in advance of the event via Brown Paper Tickets. With bottle counts still to be finalized (expect roughly 400/900/1300 for Door Kriek, Framrood, and The Fox and the Grapes, respectively), the reservation system is an interesting way to settle the retail issue ahead of party day, at least a little bit. It isn't clear at this time if the entirety of the bottle allocations will be sold via BPT, or if any will be reserved for walk-in buys.
Put 5:00 PM on Friday, January 23rd, on your calendars, beer lovers. When that coolship (Pierre!) gets filled, sometime that evening, you're going to want to be there.
